Field notes · editor's pick

“Less a museum than a place families come to stand still. The stone lions are worn smooth.”

The guide

What is here

A sequence of courtyards, a memorial hall and an axis that families walk in order. It is a place of ceremony more than display, and quiet on weekdays.

Timing

Ninety minutes covers it. It pairs naturally with a late flight out of Xinzheng, twenty minutes away by taxi.

Practical notes

  • Dress conservatively; this is an active memorial site
  • Free on ordinary days, ticketed during the spring ceremony
  • 08:00–17:30, closed Mondays in winter
