Why it matters

  • 01The excavated Shang capital, with chariot pits and palace foundations in situ
  • 02Oracle bones here carry the earliest mature Chinese script
  • 03The on-site museum holds bronzes too large to travel

“This is the room where Chinese writing stops being theory. The pits are still open to the sky.”

The guide

Read the ground

The site is mostly foundations and pits rather than standing buildings. Take the English audio guide; without it the archaeology reads as empty ground.

Pair it

The Yinxu museum and the old city wall are close enough to combine into a half day with lunch in between.

Practical notes

  • English signage is limited; the audio guide is the difference
  • Anyang East station is 20 minutes away by taxi
  • 08:00–18:00
