“Not a performance: families arrive with offerings, and the smoke does not stop all day.”

The guide

During the fair

The lunar February fair is the reason to come; expect dense crowds, incense smoke and performance stages across the grounds. Weekdays are calmer than weekends.

Outside the fair

The mausoleum is quiet and ceremonial for the rest of the year, with old cypress avenues and stone tablets worth a slow hour.

Practical notes

  • Dress for smoke and ash during the fair
  • Zhoukou East station is 40 minutes away by car
  • 08:00–17:30
