Archaeology notes · editor's pick

“The scale underground is hard to believe: halls cut into rock, painted ceilings, no crowds.”

The guide

Inside

The main tomb runs deep into the hill with several chambers and a drainage system cut into the floor. Lighting is low; allow your eyes to adjust.

Above ground

The hilltop has a small temple and views over the eastern plain. Half a day covers the tombs and the walk between them.

Practical notes

  • Bring a light jacket; the chambers stay cool year-round
  • Forty minutes by car from Yongcheng North station
  • 08:30–18:00
